The blast occurred in a locality near Herat airport when a suicide bomber set off his explosives-laden jacket next to an army vehicle, the official told Xinhua.
"Several gunshots followed the blast. It is said that two other suicide bombers fled the scene," a witness said.
Three army personnel were injured in the blast.
