He first accepts and says that: There is no God but, Allah, and Mohammad is the Messenger of Allah. He recites first kalma of Islam.
Allah forgives all the past sins of that person, and he becomes like a new born with new learning and clean mind. All his previous sins are forgiven and he start with a blank state, or a complete clean record. Islam erases all sins committed prior to becoming a Muslim.
Allah says:
“Say to those who have disbelieved, if they cease (from disbelief), their past will be forgiven. But if they return (thereto), then the examples of those (punished) before them have already preceded (as a warning)”
